Meet the Snake Lady
Zehara is a celebrated performer, teacher and choreographer. For over a decade, Zehara performed in New England as "Boston's Resident Snake Charmer" (Boston Globe 2005). She and her serpentine dance partners have performed at countless venues including weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, concerts and more. Zehara has studied Turkish and Egyptian styles of Middle Eastern dance as well as other dance styles ranging from Russian Romany to West African. She is also a hula hooper, glass walker and fire eater. Zehara has been troupe director of “The Daughters of Eden,” (2005-2007), “Alankara,” (2008-2011) and her Primal Dance (TM) troupe “Huntress,” (2011-2015). Furthermore, Zehara has hosted and produced several successful theatrical shows such as “Kalliope's Karavan,” (2008-2011) and “ANIMUS: A Shamanic Journey Through Dance,” (2012-2015), elevating the art of Belly Dance and sideshow arts to a theatrical setting. Zehara has been featured in music videos' including Mexican singer Tamara Rodriguezs' “Italian-O” video (with her snakes Bella and Kaala) as well as in an online advertising campaign for Absolute Vodka's Apple Orient ™. In 2012, Zehara was an opening act for the Counting Crows for their performance at The House of Blues for Big Brothers & Big Sisters Fundraiser and has also been featured in numerous national and international print and magazine exposés. Zehara is above all a believer in the education and conservation of all reptiles. Her performance work has a dual purpose of entertainment and education. She has been a member of the New England Herpetological Society and the United States Association of Reptile Keepers. She and her snakes have taught countless workshops on snakes, serpentine mythology and have worked via exposure therapy to help those with snake phobias.
